An extraordinary meeting of the philosophical scientific circle of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines was held and dedicated to the memory of one of the first professors of the university, longtime head of the Department of Philosophy and Political Science, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Oleksandr Kryvulia (14.10.1941 – 15.03.2012). The members of the circle got acquainted with the biography and scientific activity of the famous professor.
From 1992, he worked as the head of the Department of Philosophy and Political Science of Kharkiv Institute (later the University) of Internal Affairs; from 1995, he was a Professor of this department. From 2002 to 2005, he was Rector of Kharkiv University of Economics and Law. From 2005 to 2012, he was the Professor of the Department of Theoretical and Practical Philosophy of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
He taught philosophy courses; history of philosophy; methods of teaching philosophical disciplines in higher educational institutions; German classical philosophy, as well as a special course on the practical philosophy of Kant.
Research interests of O.M. Kryvulia were concentrated mainly in the field of social philosophy and the history of philosophy. He developed a dialectic of social relations and human activity, which opens up prospects for coverage of socio-philosophical issues through the prism of form and content, essence and phenomena, convergence of levels of analysis of social reality, defining a program for solving current problems of functioning and development of society. O.M. Kryvulia is the author of about 100 publications, including a monograph, 11 collections of scientific articles (scientific editor and co-author of publications) and 5 textbooks.
From 1990 to 1994, he was a deputy of Kharkiv regional council, where he headed the standing deputy commission on education. In 1992, he initiated the annual Kharkiv International Skovoroda Readings and was their constant organizer until 2012. In 1996, he founded and headed Kharkiv City Society "Philosophical Education". He was an active member of the expert commission at Kharkiv Regional State Administration on the modernization of Hr. Skovoroda museum. He was awarded the Cross of Glory by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Kryvulia was a winner of Hryhorii Skovoroda Prize (2008). Materials about the life of O.M.
