On the occasion of the Day of Unity of Ukraine, an online museum lecture was held for first-year cadets of faculties № 1-4 of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. Students of the Postgraduate Education Institute of KhNUIA also joined the event in accordance with the quarantine norms.
The Day of Unity of Ukraine is celebrated in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine from 1999. The historical event itself took place during the turbulent events of the National Liberation War of 1917-1921. The unification of the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic and the Ukrainian People’s Republic took place on January 22, 1919, during the first anniversary of the proclamation of state independence of the UPR. And although this case came to fruition much later, the impact of this event was irreversible. It is symbolic that the idea of state independence of Ukraine and the Union was first expressed at the end of the 19th century by Yulian Bachynskyi from Halychana and Mykola Mikhnovskyi from Slobozhanshchyna.
The director of the museum Andrii Prokhorov prepared a presentation, which showed numerous documents and photos / portraits of famous people Yevhen Petrushevych, Volodymyr Vynnychenko, Lonhyn Tsehelskyi, Fedir Shvets and other people involved in the preparation and proclamation of the Unification Act, highlighted the historical background of that period.
Nowadays, the historical complexity of the events of that time is used in the information war against Ukraine. That is why such facts of national history need our special attention and study.
