Today, February 16, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading and as a whole the draft law №2596 On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Strengthening Liability for Certain Violations in the Sphere of Road Safety".

The bill provides for increased liability for violations of traffic rules, legislates the possibility of using police video equipment, with the mandatory attachment of such materials to the protocol on administrative offenses, and provides for the possibility of stopping the vehicle by police to inspect drivers using special equipment to check for alcohol, drugs or other intoxication.

Adoption of the draft Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine to Strengthen Liability for Certain Violations in the Field of Road Safety" will help prevent road safety offenses, more restrained and balanced behavior of drivers on the roads and, as a consequence, will lead to reducing the number of accidents, especially accidents committed by persons who were driving under the influence of alcohol or in a state caused by the use of narcotic drugs or other intoxicants.
