With the support and participation of representatives of the Radiological Safety Directorate of the U.S. Department of Energy, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, and the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, an introductory seminar on the development of a course on police response to the threat of ionizing radiation sources theft during use, storage, or transportation was held at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.
The seminar purpose was to train employees of higher educational establishments with specific conditions, to develop training courses on the specified topic for further implementation of an integrated course in the educational process.
Hennadii Honcharuk, Deputy Director of the Directorate for Strategic Planning and European Integration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine - Head of the Main Department for Sustainability of the Security Sector and Critical Infrastructure Protection started off the seminar. Among the training participants were representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and higher educational establishments with specific training conditions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
The program of the four-day seminar included both webinars and group work. The rector of the University Valerii Sokurenko congratulated the seminar participants on the completion of their study. He expressed gratitude to the organizers of the event for the high level of trust in the university, which was chosen as the base for the training, and stressed that "the acquired knowledge and techniques will be successfully used by seminar participants in the training process to increase radiation awareness of police. Cooperation with international establishments and their specialists provides access to new methods, modern technologies, and equipment, and this is very important."
Hennadii Honcharuk, Deputy Director of the Directorate for Strategic Planning and European Integration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine - Head of the Main Department for Sustainability of the Security Sector and Critical Infrastructure Protection, noted that holding such events is another step towards the implementation of the occupied territories reintegration program. He expressed gratitude to the administration of the University for the high level of organization of the seminar and noted the high speed of the educational institution and its training base development. "It is always a pleasure to work here and I am convinced that our constructive cooperation will continue in the future. I also hope that the course of radiation awareness of police officers will be included in the training programs as one of the main training courses", - Hennadii Oleksiiovych noted.
All participants of the seminar received the relevant certificates, which were presented by the Rector of the University Valerii Sokurenko and the First Vice-Rector Dmytro Shvets.
