Date and time: November 10, 2020; 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM (UTC+01:00)

Place: Online

Emerging threats have a tremendous impact on the defence structures of governments and international institutions working to combat those new ones that the world faces today. The world continually faces threats across cyber, health and environmental sectors, etc. Additional security measures must be implemented to deter and prevent the ones impacting civilian livelihood.

Plans have been developed to include specific systems into national infrastructures to accommodate perceived threats, such as terrorist or cyber-attacks, with cooperation through NATO and European member states. These new policies ultimately impact the defence and security strategies for governments and international institutions.

The following questions will be addressed during the event:

  • How have emerging security challenges impacted defence planning and military operations in recent years?
  • How have these threats evolved over time?
  • What can be done to best protect Europe, NATO member states and their Allies from constantly evolving threats in 2020 and beyond?

Speakers:

- Dr. Antonio Missiroli, Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, NATO

- Dr. Jamie Shea, Former Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, NATO
